The XL2 version of Piramid provides reliable outdoor "volumetric" protection under even the most severe environmental conditions.

Piramid X2L models SDI-76XL2 and SDI-77XL2 are dual technology sensors combining Protech's proprietary Stereo Doppler Microwave Technology with a dual element Passive Infrared sensor. The independent sensor modules are "And Gated" and must activate simultaneously to create an overall sensor alarm.

The Piramid XL2 sensors have a very broad application range. The key to their success is the unique, dual-channel Stereo Doppler Microwave Detector and its ability to ignore randomly moving objects. The capability to field adjust the distance a target must move to create an alarm, enhances the sensor's adaptability to most environmental situations.

Generally, the Piramid XL2 sensors are used for strategic area or specific asset protection. They are also frequently used in conjunction with outdoor perimeter systems as a "gap filler".

The XL2V version of the Piramid features an expanded outdoor housing for the internal mounting of a video camera. The Piramid XL2V is equipped with a universal mounting bracket and the space available to accommodate many small CCD Cameras (see Maximum Camera Dimensions listed in specifications section). The Piramid XL2V sensor offers a form C relay output to activate carious video switching equipment.

The Piramid XL2V sensors have a very broad application range. This built-in flexibility affords a high level of security while virtually eliminating false alarms.

The SDI-77XL2-EX Model of Stereo Doppler was developed to protect Hazardous Locations due to the presence of flammable gasses or vapors, combustable dusts or easily ignitable fibers or flyings. The SDI-77XL2-EX electronic assembly is configured to be easily inserted into a special explosion-proof enclosure. The unit is suitable for applications in Hazardous Locations under the following classifications:

• Class I, Div. 1 & 2, Groups C,D
• Class II, Div. 1 & 2, Groups E,F,G
• Class III
• NEMA 7CD, 9EFG

The unit is suitable for installations at petroleum refineries, chemical and petrochemical plants, storage areas and other processing facilities where hazardous substances are handled or stored.

The Direction Control Versions of the Piramid XL offer a field adjustable switch to control the direction of a target based on the direction of movement. A three-position digital switch allows the sensor to be set to detect 1) only approaching targets, 2) only receding targets or 3) both approaching and receding targets.

There are three different versions of the Direction Control Piramid XL. Each version varies somewhat in detection capabilities.

1. Models SDI-76XL-MW-VD and SDI-77XL-MW-VD are single technology microwave sensors that are best for detecting vehicles. This version comes in both a wide and narrow pattern and will detect vehicles (cars) at distances of approximately 100 ft.
2. Models SDI-76XL-MW-DIR and SDI-77XL-MW-DIR are single technology microwave sensors. The detection parameters are set up to detect pedestrians or intruders rather than vehicles. The sensor is often used in a Lookdown configuration (with PH-5 Lookdown Housing) to protect ladders, towers, the sides of buildings, etc.
3. Models SDI-76XL-DIR and SDI-77XL-DIR are dual technology sensors combining Stereo Doppler Microwave and Passive Infrared sensors. The independent sensor technologies are "And Gated" and must activate simultaneously to create an overall sensor alarm. The detection parameters are set up to detect pedestrians and intruders rather than vehicles. The sensor can be used as a gap filler in outdoor perimeter systems. The Dual Technology Version of the direction control sensor is often used in a PH-5 Lookdown Housing to protect ladders, towers, poles, the sides of buildings, etc. against climbers or when detection on the ground at the base of the protected structure is required.

The "HS" Models of Piramid were developed to satisfy those applications where Ultra High Security is required. Several "special" high security features are incorporated into the standard Piramid units to provide sensors that satisfy virtually all high security requirements specified by U.S. Government security regulatory agencies. The new "M" version sensors of the HS version are "AND GATE/OR GATE" switchable and offer unequalled flexibility.

The High Security Versions of the Piramid XL offer enhanced detection capability when compared to the standard Piramid XL and XL2 Versions. The detection parameters are altered to enable these sensors to offer greater overall detection capability for slow moving, fast moving and crawling intruders.

The Piramid XL high security version sensors are manufactured using PROTECH's proprietary Stereo Doppler Microwave Technology. The high security versions of the Piramid XL sensors are offered as dual technology sensors, as well as single technology microwave-only sensors. The following are models offered in each category:

• Dual technology: SDI-76XL-MIL, SDI-77XL-MIL, SDI-76XL-HS, SDI-77XL-HS
• Single technology: SDI-76XL-MW, SDI-77XL-MW

The Dual Technology models are also equipped with a dual element Passive Infrared Sensor. In these versions the independent sensor modules are "And Gated" and must activate simultaneously to create an overall sensor alarm. The various models of high security Piramid XL offer different levels of detection capability and stability. Models SDI-76XL-MW and SDI-77XL-MW offer the best detection capability while providing good stability. Models SDI-76XL-MIL, SDI-77XL-MIL, SDI-76XL-HS and SDI-77XL-HS offer excellent detection capability and stability.

The "LT" (Ladder and Tower) Version of Piramid is an Outdoor Dual Technology Motion sensor specifically designed to protect against intruders climbing up ladders and towers. The Piramid LT Version features Protech's proprietary Stereo Doppler Microwave Technology combined with Passive Infrared. The sensor is configured so that both technologies must activate simultaneously for a sensor alarm. The Direction Control Switch can be set to one of three detection modes:

1. Approach Mode – Sensor detects only approaching targets
2. Recede Mode – Sensor detects only receding targets
3. Both Mode – Sensor detects both approaching and receding targets

For protecting ladders and towers The Piramid LT is generally mounted at the top of the structure looking downward. The Direction Control Switch is set in the "Approach" mode so that the sensor detects only approaching targets, i.e. someone climbing up the ladder or structure.
